TL;DR

Discover how Paua showcases second-hand EVs at the EV Rally, emphasizing affordable electric driving and sustainable charging solutions.

  • Paua returns to the EV Rally as the official EV charge card provider for the third year running
  • And to truly push the limits of electric vehicles and EV charging Paua will be running two second hand EV’s to showcase that they can do the distance
  • All combined with a super sustainable wooden EV charge card

London, UK - 18th June 2024

Paua plans to drive two second hand electric vehicles for the 1,400 miles of the EV rally in early July this year.

The EV Rally is a showcase of what electric vehicles are capable of. Paua’s use of second-hand vehicles will showcase that affordable vehicles with smaller battery sizes are capable of meeting the needs of most drivers when appropriate planning is taken into account.

However, Paua has a secret advantage. Paua is the developer of the UK’s largest aggregated network of EV charge point connectors for business drivers. Paua has built a magic EV charge card platform through the integration with over 35 network partners that works with one mobile app and one Paua card.

This magic card, connected to the Paua platform, has been used twice previously as the official EV charge card for the rally. Business drivers on the road need confidence that they can find reliable charging where they need it and this is what Paua will showcase with the EV Rally.

The two vehicles being used are a Renault Zoe from Voltric with 32,410 miles on the clock (the more recent version which retails second hand for around £9,000 on cinch) and a Nissan eNV200 with 11,214 miles on the clock (retails second hand from around £10,000 on AutoTrader). The van will remain racked with a full commercial setup including ladders as it is being provided by the all-electric fleet of G.Network who have operated over 200 electric vehicles.

Both vehicles face certain restrictions when it comes to charging. The Zoe carries a real world range of 190 miles and a maximum charging speed of 46kW. The Renault env200 van operates on CHAdeMO which is a less widespread charging connector and has a range of 105 miles and a max charging speed of 46kW.

To ensure success with these vehicles the Paua team will rely on the reliability and accessibility provided by their charge point partners. They will use their own technology to plan routes and charging locations.

Colin Boyton, the founder of the EV Rally, stated “The EV Rally is an award-winning event exists to showcase technology that enables businesses to transition to electric vehicles. In 2022 commercial vehicles drove from John O’Groats to Land’s End and then around the Five Capitals (Cardiff, London, Edinburgh, Belfast & Dublin) in 2023. In 2024 the drivers will follow an A-to-Z theme around England. Teams of over 50 commercial vehicles drive around the country aiming to do so safely and sustainably and showcase what electric vehicles are capable of.”

In order to ensure that drivers were successful in 2022 Paua integrated with ChargePlace Scotland lending the first true national network to the rally with 16,000 connectors (at the time the largest network). In 2023 the Paua network was once again the largest network for business drivers with 31,000 connectors and then the Irish network. In 2024 Paua will provide 53,000 connectors as the UK’s largest network to rally drivers once again.

To ensure that the Rally aligns to its Net Zero objectives 100% of the electricity supplied by Paua will be renewable. And in a little touch of sustainable innovation Paua will be using Wooden cards for the first time on the journey. Wooden cards are one more step towards innovating for a cleaner journey.
