TL;DR

Many websites claiming to compare fuel cards are actually affiliated with specific dealers, limiting your options. This post exposes the owners behind these sites, highlighting the importance of knowing who you're really dealing with. Stay informed to make the best choice for your business.

Unmasked; the fuel card websites masquerading as comparison sites but acting as funnels for their own products.

You are seeking to compare fuel cards. So you innnocently drop a search into Google and it returns several promising looking websites claiming to compare fuel cards.

Buyer beware!

Things are not all as they seem. Often times these websites are simply funnels for fuel card dealers.

We wrote this article after discovering the shocking truth that many of the “so called” fuel card comparison websites are anything but. Below we break down the websites that claim to compare fuel cards, the companies behind them, and the evidence you can check if you are curious (like we are).

iCompario: Website

Claimed in their own adverts to represent the largest selection of fuel cards.

Actual owner: Radius

See the footer for: European Diesel Card Limited. Part of Radius Payment Solutions.

So you won’t find an AllStar card in their recommendations. 😉

Icompario advert

Compare fuel cards: website

“Compare many of the major business fuel cards to find the right fuel card for you”

Actual owner: Fleetcor (AllStar)

The Fuel Card Company UK Limited. Who are they? You have to go to companies house for this one. Go to “People”, Persons with Significant Control and you find “Fambo UK Limited”.  A further search on companis house reveals that Fambo UK Limited is owned by Fleetcor

So you wont find a Radius fuel card on this site. 😁

Right fuel card company: website

“The right fuel card. The right card for your business” is the claim on this site. So maybe we are onto something.

Actual owner: Edenred

Stated in the main page and one the footer. But who are Edenred? Edenred are an international company specialising in specific purpose payment solution to companies, employees and merchants. As well as their own fleet and mobility programmes. However they don't have a big UK fuel card presence beyond the Right fuel card company so perhaps this is better.

Smart Home charge: website

Wait? Whats this? A company that compares EV charge cards. But offers home chargers?

Don’t worry they are a super slick outfit who do indeed offer home chargers but they compare EV charge cards also. All part of their offering to support consumers.

Actual owner: Smart Home Charge

No trickery or tom foolery here.

Smarthome

Oh - and if you think that main image is a bit odd; well it is as a robot from Stable Diffusion drew it!
